About us \ News \ SHMC presents: A Chilling Sequel to Nightmare at the Museum
This Halloween, the Sir Howard Morrison Centre presents Nightmare at the Theatre on 26 and 27 October —a captivating event that transforms the venue into a haunted playground. Embark on a thrilling journey through eerie corridors and chilling scenarios in this unmissable experience.
Layla Robinson, the event creator from Wildside Promotions, expresses her enthusiasm: “Nightmare at the Theatre promises an immersive experience that will push the boundaries of your fears. It’s a unique opportunity to see the Centre in a completely new light—or rather, in complete darkness!”
The Nightmare at the Theatre - R14 Edition will kick off each evening at 6:30pm, inviting fearless participants to embark on a 15-20 minute guided tour filled with chilling scenes and iconic horror figures.
With groups limited to just 6 participants, you can expect an intimate and spine-tingling encounter with terror.
For families seeking a taste of fright without overwhelming scares, the Nightmare at the Theatre: Family Edition offers a spooky adventure perfect for kids aged 8 and up, with sessions beginning at 3:30pm.
Families will explore the Centre’s haunted hallways, meet entertaining characters, and enjoy thrilling surprises, all under the watchful eye of parents to ensure a fun and appropriately spooky experience.Previously, the Nightmare at the Museum event at the Rotorua Museum captivated audiences for years, filling its historic halls with ghouls, ghosts, and gory surprises. Always a sold-out event, it was a favourite for thrill-seekers and ghost story enthusiasts alike.
“Those same brave souls were often seen hiding behind their friends at some of the more terrifying moments during the tour,” Layla notes.
Despite recent renovations, the eerie ambiance of the historic Sir Howard Morrison Centre still lingers, and Layla alongside the Sir Howard Morrison Centre Technical Team, has expertly tapped into that essence to craft the tour's chilling scenes.
“Rumour has it there’s an in-house ghost at the theatre. Tales are told of taps turning on by themselves, mysterious lights, and darkened corridors when you least expect it. Some say it’s the spirit of an old caretaker, lingering to keep an eye on the place he loved so dearly.” she adds.
Prepare for an unforgettable Halloween haunt this labour weekend at Nightmare at the Theatre. Tickets are limited, and demand is high.
