Whānau Open Day provides a platform for local artists to share their talent in an free arts-focused, event on Saturday 24 February.

Performing Arts Director, Janelle Bish says this opportunity is open to Rotorua-based performers of all ages. The programme aims to include a variety of genres, including kapa haka, opera, musical theatre, contemporary dance, cultural performances, and highlights the breadth of talent on offer here in Rotorua.

“Audiences will have the opportunity to see a dynamic range of performing arts at no cost, but we also want to provide an opportunity for attendees to participate through workshops that harness their own abilities as performers”, says Janelle Bish.

To submit an act for Whānau Open Day, complete the submission form on the Sir Howard Morrison Centre website by Friday 26 January, and the programme will be announced on Friday 9 February.

On Saturday 24 February from 10am – 2pm, the Sir Howard Morrison Centre stages will be hosted by dynamic local MCs and feature local musicians, dancers and entertainers.

“With a focus on our tamariki, the Whānau Open Day will provide an intergenerational performing arts experience for families to enjoy together”, says Janelle Bish.

The Sir Howard Morrison Centre officially reopened to the public on 17 February 2023, and this event marks the anniversary.
