About us \ News \ Iconic Gold Coast show Dracula's is coming to Rotorua.
Following a sold-out 2023 New Zealand tour, Dracula’s Sanctuary is coming to the Sir Howard Morrison Centre on 4 and 5 July 2025, for an exclusive Bay of Plenty debut.
This all-new production promises an unforgettable night filled with electrifying acrobatics, powerhouse vocals, and Dracula’s signature theatrical style.
With musical tributes to icons like Guns N’ Roses, Elton John, and No Doubt, audiences will be immersed in a high-octane performance that keeps them on the edge of their seats.
Known for its interactive nature and a strong fan following, the show invites audiences to be as lively as the performers themselves, and, if the cheers are loud enough, they might just be rewarded with an encore.
Performing Arts Director Janelle Bish shared her excitement at welcoming Dracula’s to Rotorua, saying, “We are incredibly excited and proud to host an event of this scale here in Rotorua at the Sir Howard Morrison Centre. Bringing Dracula’s Sanctuary to our city offers Bay of Plenty audiences a unique opportunity to experience this iconic show without leaving the region. It’s a remarkable addition to our performance calendar, showcasing the very best in entertainment right here at home.”
Dracula’s is a long-standing entertainment institution, originating in Melbourne in 1980 when its founders transformed a back-alley venue into a gothic-inspired cabaret that quickly captivated audiences.
Drawing on themes from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Dracula’s theatre blended music, zany characters, and a haunted castle atmosphere, leading it to become one of Melbourne’s legendary venues.
After moving to its larger Victoria Street location in 1990 and opening a second venue on the Gold Coast, Dracula’s evolved from a cult favourite to an internationally celebrated show, bringing its unconventional style to audiences around the world.
Third-generation Dracula’s steward and Newman Entertainment CEO Luke Newman says that with Sanctuary, audiences should expect an experience that’s bolder and more unpredictable than ever. “Dracula’s is all about the unexpected, a wild blend of comedy, music and breathtaking performance. After our first New Zealand season sold out in 2023, we’re thrilled to bring Sanctuary across the ditch as an even bigger, bolder and more outrageous show,” he says.
The show will be packed with a new series of acts, with the kind of wild performances Dracula’s fans have come to expect. “This show is packed with everything Dracula’s fans crave - seductive spectacle, sharp wit and high-octane energy. Audiences should expect to be on the edge of their seats the whole way through. Fans will be kicking themselves if they miss-out again.”
